Lane Speaking at NASA

Lane Wallace knows adventure.

She’s been stranded on a glacier in shorts and tennis shoes, tasked with a hostage rescue mission in Sudan, and was part of the first blimp crew to successfully fly through the Alps. She’s been lost in life-threatening conditions over the Appalachian mountains while flying her own airplane across America, has climbed an 18,000-foot mountain in the shadow of Mt. Everest, and has spent time collecting the stories of war refugees from Sudan, Darfur, Rwanda and Burundi. She also quit a successful corporate job to follow her passion for writing and exploring, and has forged her own path through self-employment and entrepreneurship for more than 20 years.

Through her encounters with adventure, nature, and other humans around the world, Lane has gathered a treasure trove of humbling, funny, heartbreaking, and joyous stories and lessons about surviving uncertainty and forging a meaningful and powerful path through life, no matter what challenges arise along the way. As an entrepreneur and journalist, she has also turned a keen, analytic eye to the challenges and rewards of pursuing uncharted, trailblazing business ventures, with valuable and insightful results. She’s also a very funny storyteller.

Lane has been interviewed on NPR and the BBC and has spoken at a wide variety of business conferences, conventions and fundraising events. She’s also presented at business and community organizations, women’s groups, schools, and events and venues ranging from the Forbes Executive Women’s Summit and the 92nd Street Y in New York City to Stanford University and the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.

Lane gears her talks toward the needs and interests of individual audiences, but general topics and themes include:

Adventure is Rarely Comfortable
Many of us fantasize about having a more adventurous life. And adventure does have many rewards. But buyer beware. Regardless of whether the challenge is physical, professional, or personal, real adventure is rarely comfortable. And that’s okay. A funny, insightful look at what separates an adventure from a vacation … and why the discomfort is worth it.

Flying the U-2
Lessons about flight, survival, and the planet Earth from the edges of space.

The Hope and Heartbreak of Africa’s Conflict Zones
What flying relief supplies in Sudan, Chad, and the eastern region of the Congo taught Lane about complex issues of culture, violence, and the human spirit of survival.
